It is important to verify with their insurance carrier that they are in good standing with their account. Also, see if they are carrying workman’s comp insurance for added protection. Checking up on your contractor does not mean you do not trust them, it simply shows you are trying to handle this job in a very professional way. It is your right to know this information before choosing a contractor.
Finally, you want to be sure that the roofing contractors that you choose carry a contract with them. If you decide to go with a certain company, local or online roofing contractors, a contract is a very important piece of paper for the job. On a contract, information such as price and warranty should be included. Also, the contractor may list the warranty specifically as to how long they will come back and repair your roof for no additional cost. When a contractor is not willing to sign a contract on these things, this is a red flag and is not recommended. Without a written and signed contract, you have no proof as to what you and the contractor discussed.
