First, check out the contractor completely. Whether it be online roofing contractors, or someone local, you should investigate the company or individual properly. Always ask for references to protect yourself. Furthermore, follow through and check those references to see if there were any problems with this particular contractor. This is important to assure that you get the best quality work possible.

After you make a copy, you can do your own investigation and call to make sure that this person is a properly licensed roofing contractor. You should check with the State Board of Roofing Contractors for this information.

Also, check to make sure that the roofing contractors, or online roofing contractors are properly insured. If there would be an accident you would not want to be held liable; this is why you should be certain they are carrying insurance. It is important to verify with their insurance carrier that they are in good standing with their account. Also, see if they are carrying workman’s comp insurance for added protection. It is your right to know this information before choosing a contractor.

If you decide to go with a certain company, local or online roofing contractors, a contract is a very important piece of paper for the job. On a contract, information such as price and warranty should be included. Also, the contractor may list the warranty specifically as to how long they will come back and repair your roof for no additional cost. When a contractor is not willing to sign a contract on these things, this is a red flag and is not recommended. Without a written and signed contract, you have no proof as to what you and the contractor discussed.
